Evolutionary patterns of carbohydrate transport and metabolism in Halomonas boliviensis as derived from its genome sequence: influences on polyester production

Daniel Guzman, Andrea Balderrama-Subieta, Carla Cardona-Ortuno, Monica Guevara-Martinez, Nataly Callisaya-Quispe, Jorge Quillaguaman Aquatic Biosystems 2012, 8:9 (17 April 2012)

The ability of halophilic bacterium Halomonas boliviensis, a bioplastic producer, to grow on different carbon sources can be explained by the large number of genes related to carbohydrate uptake and metabolism, many acquired from other bacteria by HGT.
